While some attend in more formal wear, others wear more casual clothing. We want you to wear what you are comfortable in. Six Core Pillars Christ Indy UMC is a church grounded in six core pillars and we strive to live those out in everything we do. Fellowship Fellowship, rooted in the teachings of scripture, holds immense importance within Christian communities. The Bible encourages believers to gather together in fellowship as it fosters unity, support, and spiritual growth. In Hebrews 10:24-25, it is written, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another." This underscores the role of fellowship in encouraging positive actions and providing mutual support. Moreover, the New Testament emphasizes the importance of bearing one another's burdens, exemplifying Christ's love, and strengthening the body of believers through communal bonds. Through scripture-inspired fellowship, Christians can find solace, encouragement, and a shared sense of purpose in their faith journeys. Service Serving, as illuminated by scripture, lies at the core of Christian faith and practice. In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus instructs his followers, saying, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." This passage enforces the Christian duty to serve those in need as a direct expression of love for Christ. Throughout the Bible, believers are repeatedly called to serve their neighbors, showing compassion and acting justly. Serving others, guided by scripture, not only aligns with Christian values but also leads to a more meaningful and purposeful life, fulfilling the biblical mandate to love one another as Christ has loved us. Prayer Prayer is a cornerstone of the Christian faith, as it fosters a deep and personal connection with God. In Philippians 4:6-7, the Bible teaches, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This passage highlights the importance of prayer in finding peace and seeking God's guidance in times of worry or distress. Throughout the Bible, prayer is not only a means of communication with God but also a source of strength, wisdom, and spiritual growth for believers, emphasizing its profound significance in the Christian journey. Community Outreach Community is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, exemplified in passages such as Romans 12:4-5: "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." This verse illustrates the interconnectedness and unity of believers as a single, harmonious body in Christ. Additionally, Acts 2:42-47 describes the early Christian community, emphasizing their devotion to fellowship, breaking bread together, and sharing their resources, reflecting the importance of communal bonds in nurturing faith and providing support. In essence, scripture underscores that Christian faith thrives in the context of a loving and supportive community where believers can grow spiritually, bear one another's burdens, and collectively live out their faith. Witness Witnessing is a central tenet of the Christian faith, encapsulating the imperative to share the gospel message and one's own faith journey with others. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus instructs his disciples, saying, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This Great Commission emphasizes the duty of every Christian to bear witness to the transformative power of Christ's teachings. Acts 1:8 further underscores the importance of witnessing as it states, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Witnessing is not only a command but also a privilege, as it allows believers to participate in God's redemptive work and offer hope and salvation to others through their own faith experiences. Worship Worship in a United Methodist Church is a central act of faith that unites the congregation in praising God and growing spiritually. It provides a space to hear and reflect on Scripture, deepening the understanding of God's word while strengthening both personal and communal relationships with Christ through prayer, music, and sacraments like Holy Communion. This shared experience fosters a sense of unity and belonging, encouraging members to support and uplift one another in faith. Additionally, worship serves as a source of inspiration, calling believers to live out their faith through acts of service, justice, and love. In this way, worship not only nurtures the spiritual lives of individuals but also empowers the church to be a force for good in the world. You can join us for worship each Sunday at 9:00am or 11:15am!

Our Beliefs United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. Explore what we say about God, human being, the church, the Bible and more. For more specific United Methodist beliefs explore: Our Social Principles The Articles of Religion Confession of Faith The Book of Discipline The Book of Resolutions What does it mean to be a United Methodist? The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God's grace and in serving others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God's love--showing us the fullness of God's care through Jesus' teachings, death and resurrection. John Wesley started the Methodist movement in 18th century England. His teachings on practical divinity (living out our faith) and appeals to reason and experience form important aspects of United Methodist practice today. Baptism and Communion The United Methodist Church recognizes two sacraments, baptism and communion. These two acts have a special place in the church because Jesus commanded them and participated in them. Baptism marks the beginning of our lifelong journey as disciples of Jesus Christ. Communion nourishes and sustains us on the journey. If you are interested in baptism, you can connect with one of our pastors who would love to discuss the issue more with you. Communion is offered twice per month at Christ Indy UMC, all are welcome at our table. Gluten free options are available at both services.

  • Stephen Ministry | Christ Indy UMC

Stephen Ministry At Christ Indy UMC, we are committed to caring for one another—especially during life’s most difficult seasons. Stephen Ministry is one important way we live out that calling. Stephen Ministry is a proven and effective ministry that equips members of our congregation to provide high-quality, one-to-one, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. What Is Stephen Ministry? Stephen Ministry offers compassionate, confidential care through trained lay people—called Stephen Ministers—who walk alongside individuals experiencing life challenges such as grief, illness, job loss, loneliness, or other difficult transitions. A Stephen Minister typically meets with one person at a time, usually once a week, offering a listening ear, encouragement, prayer, and ongoing emotional and spiritual support. This ministry reflects a simple but powerful idea: Christ caring for people through people. Who is involved? Stephen Ministry includes three key roles: Stephen Leaders – pastors, staff, and trained lay leaders who lead, organize, and supervise the ministry within the church. Stephen Ministers – congregation members trained in caregiving skills who provide one-to-one care. Care Receivers – individuals going through a difficult time who receive care and support. These individuals are thoughtfully matched with a Stephen Minister after meeting with a pastor or Stephen Leader, and the caring relationship continues as long as the need exists. A Ministry of Care and Confidentiality Stephen Ministers focus on listening, caring, and walking with people—not fixing their problems—trusting God as the ultimate source of healing. They are trained to provide care that is: Confidential – what is shared remains private Consistent – regular weekly support and presence Christ-centered – rooted in prayer, compassion, and faith What is a Stephen Ministry?
